Branca Bleys

Hi, I’m Branca and I am in the Juniorsgroup since I was 13 years old.

After a few years of training I started participating in tornaments.

I am 26 now and won already a lot of medailles and prices.

The past  10 years I also participate at the Special Olympics.

Since 2003 Judo is an Olympic sport so I do judo at the games.

In 2003 I won gold and last year I won a silver medaille.

On januari 29 and 30, 2005 Special Olympics organised for the first time

The European Judo Championship in Tongerlo.

Nine countries participated: Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Andorra,

France, Finland, The United Kingdom, Slovenia and Russia.

Saturday the took our weight and we had to play testmatches to make the pools.

After the big opening on sunday, with our princess Astrid, the real games begon.

Also the television was present.  I had to fight 4 times against a Dutch and a Belgium girl.  I won the tirth place and a bronze medaille.

Because we didn’t live far from the location we did’nt stay to sleep.

It was a very great weekend and I already look forward to the next games and in special to the Special Olymics in Luik.

  A mothers wish

When my daughter Branca was 13, she asked me to join a sport group. When she said it was judo I was a bit afraid that she would use that every time she was angry.

Finally we took the step and went to the group to look how they sport. The gave us a warm welcome and we decided to stay. Now, 13 years later, Branca changed a lot in the positive way.

Every time she participates a game, we are more nervous as she is. But I always told her that participating is more important than winning.

Every time she wins gold, silver or bronze I am very proud that my daughter did it again. I like to say to the organisation, trainers and all people who are making it possible for the handicapped persons to sport and let them feel good every time

THANK YOU !!!
